OL2001: Contact Information Is Missing from the Outlook Address Book (288507)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q288507

SYMPTOMS

When you use your Outlook Address Book (OAB) to select recipients for a message in Outlook 2001 for Mac, information from the Contacts folders does not appear in the list.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Contacts folder is not configured for use with the OAB. Additionally, if the Contacts folder is configured to be used by the OAB, contacts may not have a valid e-mail address.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must have the following three configurations to disclose contacts in the OAB:
  • Presence of the Outlook Address Book service in your user profile.
  • The Contacts folder set for use with your OAB.
  • At least one e-mail address for each individual to whom you want to send messages.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook 2001 for Mac allows any Contacts folder to be used by the OAB, not just the primary Contacts folder. For example, if you create a new folder of contacts called "Friends," you can specify that the contacts in this folder also appear in your OAB. The following steps apply to contacts in the Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox, a personal folders (.pst) file, or a public folder.

The Contacts folders appear in your address book as subcategories of an entry called Outlook Address Book. If you click the Outlook Address Book instead of one of the folder names, you do not see any contact information. To see the contact information, you must click the specific folder name that contains the contact.

How to Set Contact Attributes for the OAB

Verify the following configurations in Outlook 2001 for Mac to insure that addresses appear in the OAB.

How to Install the Outlook Address Book Service

  1. On the Tools menu, click Services.
  2. Verify that the Outlook Address Book service is in the list of available information services.
  3. If the OAB service is not in the profile, click Add, and then click Outlook Address Book on the list of available services.
  4. Click OK.

How to Mark Your Contacts Folder for Use with Your OAB

  1. In the Outlook Folder List, click to select the folder that you would like to use with the OAB. To see the Folder List, click Folder List on the View menu.
  2. On the File menu, click Folder, and then click Properties for the Contacts folder that you want to set.
  3. On the Outlook Address Book tab, click Show these contacts in the address book, and then click OK.

How to Check for E-mail Addresses

  1. On the Folder List, click to select the Contacts folder.
  2. Double-click to open the contact.
  3. Verify the address fields for e-mail addresses. If an e-mail address is not present, add an address, and then click Save to save the contact.
