The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2001 for Mac
This article was previously published under Q288468 SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Outlook 2001 includes updated technology to handle Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) services. Some earlier Microsoft Office for Apple Macintosh programs may not be able to initialize by using the newer OLE services.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs with the earlier programs when the combined 68000 and PowerPC (PPC) version of the program are installed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, use the Setup program that is supplied with the earlier Office for Macintosh program, remove the currently installed version, run Setup again, and select the PPC version.
MORE INFORMATION
The combined installations often referred to as a FAT Binary, include code to run on both earlier and PPC-based Macintosh programs. Microsoft Outlook and Office 2001 for Macintosh installs the OLE Automation Library and Microsoft OLE Library. These two files provide OLE services if the PowerPC version of the program that is installed. In most cases, the OLE Extension that is installed with the earlier programs can be disabled by using the Macintosh Extensions Manager because the OLE services are adequately supplied by the newer technology.
