OL2001: You Cannot Open Outlook in the Restricted User Mode (288461)

SYMPTOMS

If you are using the Multiple User mode of Macintosh Operating System Version 9.x (Mac OS 9) and a restricted user tries to open Outlook 2001 for Mac, the following error message occurs:
Error creating file.

-1008 :5

-5000 Access denied error

CAUSE

This problem occurs because certain files that are required to run Outlook cannot be accessed while in the Restricted User mode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, give the user either Owner or Normal permissions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

The problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section occurs when users defined with either Panels or Limited permissions in the Multiple Users control panel of Mac OS 9 are employed.
