OL2001: You Cannot Launch a URL Icon from an Attachment (288448)

SYMPTOMS

When you receive a message in Outlook 2001 for Mac that contains a hyperlink and an icon that represents a Favorite or Alias that is based in the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the Web address, the icon may not start the browser. When you double-click the icon, you may receive the following error message:
The Document <name of link> could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found
The text hyperlink opens the default browser and display the Web site without an error message.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the URL is incorrectly associated by the File Exchange Control Panel.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, remove the incorrect association in the File Exchange Control Panel. To do this:
  1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and then click File Exchange.
  2. In the PC Extension column of the mappings list, scroll to the entry for URL. The Extension URL is mapped to a program called Anarchie.
  3. Click Remove.
  4. Click OK when you receive the following prompt:

    Are you sure you want to remove the selected PC extension mapping(s)

  5. Close File Exchange, and then restart your Apple Macintosh.
  6. In Outlook, open the message with the URL icon. The icon is now associated with your default browser.
