SYMPTOMS

When you search for a word that contains double-byte character set (DBCS) characters in a folder on an Exchange 2000 server, the search results may contain unexpected items.

CAUSE

Search uses byte pointers to compare a Unicode string. This problem can occur if two characters are side-by-side; two characters that are side-by-side create a fake match.

RESOLUTION
