Source: Application Center
Description: W3SVC service could not be started
Event Type: Error
The member
%ServerName% was not brought online because the Web service could not be started.
Meaning: The default monitors restrict a member from being brought online if the World Wide Publishing Service (W3SVC) cannot be started.
Effect: The member will not be available to serve content until the problem is fixed. This member will still be synchronized with the cluster controller if it is normally in the synchronization loop. If this member is the cluster controller, synchronization to the cluster will be unaffected.
Possible Causes and SolutionsWeb Service not started: The World Wide Publishing Service is not started. To start the service, use either the
Services utility or the Internet Services Manager Administrative Tool.
Web service improperly configured: The Web service must be configured properly. Review the authentication settings for the Application Center 2000 Administrative Site by using the Internet Information Services snap-in. The authentication method should be set to
Integrated Windows authentication. No other authentication method should be used. Also,
Read permissions should be set on the Home Directory property sheet. The path should point to: "\Program Files\Microsoft\Application Center 2000\Admin". No other permissions are necessary.
