The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Application Center 2000

This article was previously published under Q288311
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the metabase. Before you edit the metabase, verify that you have a backup copy that you can restore if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, see the "Configuration Backup/Restore" Help topic in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

SYMPTOMS

When you are browsing to the Application Center 2000 Admin Site, you are not being forwarded to the cluster controller directly. You may be accessing another cluster member in some instances.

CAUSE

By default, the Application Center 2000 Admin Site is installed with request forwarding to the cluster controller turned off. This is done to prevent breaking the user interface client for direct member connect.

Because this results in clients accessing the Application Center 2000 Admin Site on a computer other than the cluster controller in the cluster, the steps to turn this on are outlined below.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you edit the metabase incorrectly, you can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall any product that uses the metabase. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that result if you incorrectly edit the metabase can be solved. Edit the metabase at your own risk.

NOTE: Always back up the metabase before you edit it.

You can use either of the following methods to work around this problem:
  • Browse to the controller name or IP address directly, for example:

    http://<cluster controller name>:4242

  • Edit the AlwaysForwardToCC metabase property, as outlined in the following steps.
    1. Copy MdUtil.exe from the Application Center 2000 CD-ROM /Support folder to your Application Center 2000 installation folder, which is usually <Program Files>/Microsoft Application Center.
    2. From a command prompt, run the following command:

mdutil set w3svc/4242 -prop 57605 -dtype dword -value 2

    3. Restart Internet Information Services (IIS).
