This article was previously published under Q288150

SUMMARY

This article describes how to rehome public folders from one server to another in Exchange 2000. This procedure is different from the procedure to rehome public folders when you use Exchange Server 5.5 and earlier.

MORE INFORMATION

To rehome public folders:
  1. Start Exchange System Manager, click Folders, and then click Public Folders.
  2. Right-click a top-level public folder, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Replication tab, click Add, and then add a replica to the target server where you want the folder rehomed.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. Right-click the same top-level public folder, click All Tasks, and then click Propagate Settings.
  6. Click to select the Replicas check box, and then click OK.

When you complete this step, all subfolders of that top-level folder have a replica on the target server.
  7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for all top-level folders and subfolders that you want to rehome.
  8. After replicas have been made on the target server, allow ample time for replication to occur.

By default, public folder replication messages are low priority. To verify the replication status of any folder, right-click the folder in Exchange System Manager, clickProperties, click the Replication tab, and then click Details.
  9. To remove the public folder replicas from the source server, repeat steps 1 through 6, but click Remove instead of Add in step 3.
In Exchange Server 5.5, you use the Instances tab in the Public Information Store properties to make and remove public folder replicas.
