SYMPTOMS
An attempt to make a secure Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) connection may not work and may return a "SEC_E_CERT_UNKNOWN" response when you are using a valid certificate. When this occurs, the Event log contains this entry:
Source : SChannel Event ID: 36876
The certificate received from the remote server has not validated correctly. The error code is 0x80090327. The SSL connection request has failed. The attached data contains the server certificate.
RESOLUTION
Windows 2000
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.
