OL2000: "Invalid Session" Error Using an EFD Form (287934)

SYMPTOMS

When you are using a form that was created with the Electronic Forms Designer (EFD) from Microsoft Mail 3.0, you receive the following error message:
Invalid session.

CAUSE

You installed the Outlook 2000 E-mail Security Update or Outlook 2000 Service Pack 2. These versions of Outlook include changes to the Msmapi32.dll file, and these changes are not compatible with Electronic Forms Designer forms.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following approaches to work around this problem:
  • Uninstall Outlook 2000, and then reinstall Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2000 Service Release 1 without the Security Update features.
  • Upgrade to Microsoft Outlook 2002, which includes an updated Msmapi32.dll file that fixes this problem.
  • Redesign the form solution using custom Outlook forms.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
