OL2002: You Cannot Change Languages with the Global Input Method Editor (287910)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Global Input Method Editor (IME) with Outlook 2002, you cannot switch to a different foreign language, even if you can switch to a different foreign language in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or 5.x.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Global Input Method Editor is designed to work with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) editors.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, change your default message format to HTML and disable Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor.

NOTE: Your recipient must also use an HTML-enabled e-mail program to read your messages.

Use the following steps to change your default outgoing message format to HTML:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Mail Format tab.
  3. In the Compose in this message format box, click HTML.
  4. Click to clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages option, and then click OK.
The Global Input Method Editors are designed to allow you to communicate in the Chinese-language, the Japanese-language, or the Korean-language without having to run a separate Chinese, Japanese, or Korean version of Microsoft Windows.
