The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q287896

SYMPTOMS

If you add Contacts from the Global Address List (GAL) to Microsoft Outlook 2000, the E-mail field shows the "Display Name" and not as a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address in the folder view after you upgrade to Outlook 2002.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, open the contact that has the "Display Name" in the folder view, and then go to the E-mail field to locate the Global Address List (GAL) for that specific contact. After you locate the contact in the GAL, click the contact's alias for the E-mail field, and then click Save and Close.

The E-mail field for that contact in the folder view will then default to the SMTP address.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
