OL2002: Error Message When You Try to Copy Messages with Names Longer than 40-Characters (287806)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to copy a message to a folder that has a name longer than 40-characters in length, you may receive the following error message:
The destination folder cannot contain messages/forms.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of the Hotmail server. Hotmail restricts the length of folder names to 30-characters or less. This restriction has only been observed with Hotmail folders and sub-folders of the Hotmail tree.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around the problem:
  • Limit folder names to 30-characters or less.
  • Click the Hotmail Inbox, click Tools, point to Send/Receive, and then click Update Folder List to synchronize the Folder list before you copy the items to a new folder.
  • Create new Hotmail folders from the following Hotmail Web site:
