OL2002: The Rule to Move Messages from the System Administrator Does Not Work (287784)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a rule to move messages from the system administrator to a specified folder, the rule may not work as expected.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because you created the rule by using the Organize button on the toolbar instead of the Rules Wizard.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, create the rule by using the Rules Wizard. To do this:
  • Add the system administrator to the Contacts folder.
  • Create the rule by using the Rules Wizard.

How to Add the System Administrator to the Contacts folder

Before you can create the rule by using the Rules Wizard, add an entry to the Contacts folder for the system administrator. To do this:
  1. Open a message from the system administrator.
  2. Highlight the system administrator in the From field.
  3. Right-click the system administrator, and then click Add to Contacts.
  4. Click Save and Close.
NOTE: The system administrator entry is noted using a period (.) The words system administrator do not appear.

How to Create the Rule by Using Rules Wizard

Create the rule by using the Rules Wizard. To do this:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Rules Wizard.
  2. Select the Inbox folder for which you would like this rule to apply, and then click New.
  3. Verify that Start creating a rule from a template is selected.
  4. Verify that Move new messages from someone is selected.
  5. In the Rule description field, click the people or distribution list link.
  6. In the Show names from box, click the Contacts folder.
  7. Highlight the system administrator entry denoted by a period (.), click From, and then click OK.
  8. In the Rule description field, click the specified link.
  9. Select the folder that you would like the messages moved to, and then click Ok.
  10. Click Finish, and then click OK.
