OL2002: Rules Wizard Ignores Web-Based E-mail Services (287778)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q287778 SYMPTOMS
When you configure Outlook 2002 to include a Web-based e-mail service, such as Hotmail or MSN, the Microsoft Network, and you click Rules Wizard on the Tools menu, you may receive the following message:
Mail sent and received using HTTP mail accounts cannot be filtered using the Rules Wizard. If server-based mail filtering is available, your mail service provider can tell you how to enable it. Rules will continue to function on all other accounts.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because the Web-based e-mail services are not compatible with the existing design of the Rules Wizard. The Rules Wizard does not filter this type of message, and the message that is described in the "Symptoms" section of this article occurs to explain this limitation.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, contact your Web-based e-mail service provider to determine if there are any types of message filtering or redirection features available for that service.
