This article was previously published under Q287765

SYMPTOMS

If cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, NetFolders, Microsoft Fax or Winfax Starter Edition (SE) services are present during the installation of Microsoft Outlook, you are presented with a choice to either remove the services while you install Outlook or Microsoft Outlook is disabled in the Microsoft Office XP installation.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook does not support these services.

MORE INFORMATION

When you attempt to update a previous installation of Outlook that contains services or add-ins for any of the following: cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, NetFolders, Microsoft Fax or Winfax Starter Edition (SE), you receive the following choices in a dialog box:

Microsoft Office XP Installation

Setup has detected that you have one or more of the following features installed:
  • cc:Mail
  • Microsoft Mail
  • Net Folders
  • Microsoft Fax
  • WinFax Starter Edition (SE)
These features are no longer supported in Outlook. If you continue the upgrade, you will no longer be able to use them. Would you like to continue the upgrade to Outlook? You can click either Yes or No in this dialog box.

If you select to continue the upgrade, the services are removed. If you select to keep the services, Outlook is marked as "Not Available" in the Setup dialog box and is not installed.
