After You Remove Proxy Server, Event Viewer Records Event ID 7003 and Error 1075 with W3SVC (287669)

SYMPTOMS

If you manually remove Microsoft Proxy Server and then restart the Windows NT 4.0 Server computer, the following error messages may appear in the Event Viewer System Log:

Event ID: 7003
The World Wide Web Publishing Service depends on the following non-existent service: IpFilterDriver.
Or
Error 1075
The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the World Wide Web Publishing Service is still configured to depend on a Proxy Server service that no longer exists.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the ipfilterdriver data value from the registry.

To remove the ipfilterdriver data value, follow these steps:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate the DependOnService value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3SVC

  3. In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click the value DependOnService.
  4. In the Multi-String Editor dialog box, delete ipfilterdriver from the Data list, and then click OK.
  5. Quit Registry Editor, and restart the computer.
