ACC2002: You Receive Save Message After You Change PivotTable Window Width (287474)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you close a Microsoft Access table in PivotTable view after you change the width of its window, you receive the following message

Do you want to save the changes to the layout of table 'tablename'?

where tablename is the table that you have been viewing.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue occurs only when you change the width of the PivotTable window. It does not occur when you change the height. It does not affect the size of the window the next time that the table is opened in PivotTable view. This issue does not occur in other views of the table.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

CAUTION: If you follow the steps in this example, you modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and follow these steps on a copy of the database.

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. Open the Customers table in Datasheet view.
  3. On the View menu, click PivotTable View.
  4. Drag Country from the PivotTable Field List box to the Row Fields drop area, and then drag CustomerID to the Totals or Detail Fields drop area.
  5. On the File menu, click Save.
  6. Close the table.
  7. Open the Customers table in Datasheet view.
  8. On the View menu, click PivotTable View.
  9. Drag the left side of the PivotTable window to the right to make the window narrower.
  10. Close the window. Notice that you receive the message described in the "Symptoms" section.
