Immediate Logon Generates System Error H80070685 (-2147023179) on Computer Running SBS (287324)

SYMPTOMS

When you log on immediately after starting a computer running Small Business Server (SBS) 4.0, you may receive the following error message:

System Error: H80070685 (-2147023179) The interface is unknown

If you wait for approximately five minutes after starting the computer before you log on, the behavior does not occur.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, uninstall the Backup.exe program and remove Backup.exe for Small Business Server, using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. Reinstall the Backup.exe program.
