HMI Address Book Lost Without Warning if Quota Is Exceeded (287151)

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Commercial Internet System service pack that contains this hotfix.

After you apply this hotfix, two additional changes are required:

• You must make changes to the Header.asp page to provide the error message to the user. You can make these changes by using the following code:

• To prevent the address book from being deleted when the quota is exceeded, you must set the address book registry value to 1. To add the registry value, follow these steps:
  
  
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require a reinstall of Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
     
     
  2. Locate the following key in the registry:

     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MCIS25\HMI

  3. In the data tree, select the address book. On the Edit menu, click DWORD and type 1 as the value.
     
     A value of 1 (DWORD) forces a test to be performed prior to updating the address book. This prevents it from being deleted when the quota is exceeded. The additional property of the rendering object, Quotareached, is also enabled.
  4. Quit Registry Editor.
