This article was previously published under Q287074

SYMPTOMS

When you send push notifications to a Microsoft Mobile Information Server that is running the Device Message Interconnect (DMI) components, you may receive the following non-delivery report (NDR):
IMCEADAVNP- http+3A__MMISNotify_Exchange2000EES_username_deviceID@mobileinformationserver on 1/21/2001 11:07 AM
The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you add additional settings to the Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase for the SMTP virtual server that is responsible for receiving messages that are sent to the MobileInformationServer domain.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the MetaEdit utility (or a different metabase editor) to navigate to the following path:

/smtpsvc/1/domain/MobileInformationServer

The following entries should be the only two entries that are listed:
RouteAction                   : [IS]    (DWORD)  0x20={32}
KeyType                       : [S]     (STRING) "IIsSmtpDomain

Delete any other entries that are present, and then restart the IIS Admin service on the Mobile Information Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
