With Winsock Proxy Client Installed on Proxy Server, DNS Host Name Resolution Does Not Work (287044)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0

This article was previously published under Q287044

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Winsock proxy client on a Proxy Server, Domain Name Service (DNS) host name resolution may not work from the Proxy Server. However, the NSLOOKUP utility is able to resolve host names.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use the WSPClient Control Panel tool to disable the Winsock proxy client on the Proxy Server, and then restart the computer.

MORE INFORMATION

When you uninstall the Winsock proxy client, the Winsock.dll and Wsock32.dll files in the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory are replaced with the original Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 versions of these files. You can also remove the Winsock proxy client by copying these files from the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM to the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory.
