The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 2002
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
This article was previously published under Q286898 SYMPTOMS
When you compose a message in Microsoft Outlook with Microsoft Word as the default editor, set a password for the document, close and save the message, and then open the saved message from the Drafts folder in Outlook, you are not prompted for the password as expected.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the encryption settings from Word are removed when the message is saved or sent as an Outlook message.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue and save draft messages encrypted with a password, save the message as a Word document, and then insert the Word document into the body of an Outlook message later.
Saving Message in Word Document Format- In the message, on the File menu, click Save As.
- Type a file name in the File name box.
- In the Save as type box, click the arrow, select Word Document, and then click Save.
Inserting Document into Message- In Outlook, open a new message.
- Click the body of the message, and then on the Insert menu, click File.
- Select the document.
- On the Insert button (in the Insert File dialog box), click the arrow, and then click Insert as Text.
- Type the password, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
