SYMPTOMS

When you print a Microsoft Word document, and you choose to print the change-tracking balloons, the paper orientation may unexpectedly shift from landscape to portrait. This behavior occurs even though Print Preview displays the landscape orientation.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you print a document that has some pages oriented as portrait and some pages oriented as landscape, and the Paper orientation setting under Printing (with balloons) is set to Preserve (the default setting).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, click the Track Changes tab.
  3. Under Printing (with balloons), select Auto in the Paper orientation box.
  4. Click OK, and then print the document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
