When you merge two identical documents that contain identical formatting in Microsoft Word, you receive the following error message:
The documents being merged have one or more conflicting formatting changes. Word can only store one set of changes in the final, merged document. Before continuing with the document merge, choose which set of changes to keep.
When you click Continue with Merge, the documents are merged but the Formatted markup balloon unexpectedly describes formatting changes in the document.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you merge two unrelated, although identical, documents that are formatted with numbering or with bullets.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
