WD2002: You Are Prompted to Train Speech Profile Although You Already Trained It (286862)

When you click Speech on the Tools menu in Word 2002, the Welcome to Office Speech Recognition dialog box appears, with the following instructions:
To increase the accuracy and reliability of speech recognition, you must
first:
1. Adjust your microphone.
2. Train Office for speech recognition.
This will take about 15 minutes. Please make sure you are in a quiet
environment. Click Next to begin the training process.
The Welcome to Office Speech Recognition dialog box appears, even though you already used the Speech tool in Control Panel to train your speech profile. You do not expect to be prompted to train your speech profile after you completed the speech recognition training.
CAUSE
Speech profiles must be trained in the Welcome to Office Speech Recognition dialog box in Microsoft Word.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods, as appropriate.
Method 1: Train Your Speech Profile- Start Microsoft Word.
- On the Tools menu, click Speech.
- In the Welcome to Office Speech Recognition dialog box, click Next.
- Follow the prompts in the Microphone Wizard to configure your microphone.
- Follow the prompts in the Voice Training - User Speech Profile dialog box to train your speech profile.
Method 2: Remove Speech Recognition
If you do not want to use the speech recognition feature, follow these steps to remove it. NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. - Quit all Microsoft Office programs.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the list of installed programs, select Microsoft Office XP, and then click Change.
- In the Microsoft Office XP Setup, select Add or remove features, and then click Next.
- Expand Office Shared Features.
- Expand Alternative User Input.
- Click the Speech icon, and then click Not Available on the menu that appears.
- Click Update to complete the removal of the speech recognition feature.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
