SYMPTOMS

When you double-click a Microsoft Word document in Microsoft Windows Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
The command you selected is not available from this shortcut menu.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Open dialog box is displayed in Word and you are attempting to open a Word document outside of Word (for example, in Windows Explorer).

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, close the Open dialog box in Word before you open the Word document in Windows Explorer.
