SUMMARY

This article describes how to turn off the personalized menus in Microsoft Visio 2002 and in Microsoft Office Visio 2003.

When you first start Visio 2002, Visio 2003, or any other program that is in Microsoft Office XP or in Microsoft Office 2003, the menus and the toolbars display basic commands and buttons. As you work with the program, the commands and buttons that you use most frequently are stored as personalized settings and appear on menus and toolbars.

If you do not have the Always show full menus check box selected, the commands that you use most frequently are "promoted" and appear on the menus. The commands that you use less frequently are "demoted" and do not appear on the menus until you expand them. If you choose not to use the Always show full menus option, Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Office still store information about how frequently you use commands so that the menus adapt and display the frequently used commands when you select this option later.

MORE INFORMATION

To see all of the commands on the menus, use any of the following methods:
  • Click the chevron arrows at the bottom of the menu.
  • On the Tools menu, click Customize. On the Options tab, click to select the Show full menus after a short delay check box.
  • On the Tools menu, click Customize. On the Options tab, click to select the Always show full menus check box.
  • Double-click the menu name in the menu bar.
NOTE: When you change how menus are displayed in Visio, the same behavior will apply in all Office programs.
