MORE INFORMATION

The Oracle database driver for Visio (the Oracle.pdl file) connects to the Oracle Database Management System (DBMS) and allows Visio to do the following:
  • Reverse engineer a database model.
  • Refresh a model from a database.
  • Generate a new database.
  • Update an existing database.
Visio uses this database driver in conjunction with vendor-supplied 32-bit Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers to connect directly to a specific DBMS. Each driver informs and provides support to Visio for the following:
  • Reverse engineer DBMS-specific information
  • Map data types and constraints
  • Specify extended attributes for your particular database application
  • Format of DDL (data definition language) in generated SQL scripts
The updated Oracle driver for Visio (Ixoracle.pdl) is designed to work with Oracle Server 7.3. Therefore, issues may exist with extended or new features, such as namespaces, or with constraints that are applied to tables. These issues can result in validation failures and other problems.

Microsoft recommends that you not apply constraints to tables, and that you use an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) implementation and configuration of SQL DDL scripts, to reduce validation errors on an update.
