XADM: Access Control Description for IMAP4 and POP3 Virtual Servers Is Incorrect (286380)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q286380 SYMPTOMS
In Exchange System Manager, the Access Control description on the Access tab of the properties of the Internet Message Access Protocol, Version 4rev1 (IMAP4) and Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) virtual servers contains the following incorrect description:
Enable anonymous access and edit the authentication methods for this resource.
Neither POP3 nor IMAP4 virtual servers allow anonymous access.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. MORE INFORMATION
By design, anonymous access is not an option for POP3 and IMAP4 virtual servers. The Access Control description on the Access tab of the POP3 or IMAP4 virtual server properties incorrectly states that anonymous access can be enabled. However, if you click the Authentication tab, the correct options are displayed, and anonymous access is not an option.
