The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Publisher 2003
  • Microsoft Publisher 2002

This article was previously published under Q286203

SYMPTOMS

When you point to Mail Merge on the Tools menu, the Mail Merge Wizard and other Mail Merge options may be unavailable (dimmed).

CAUSE

You cannot use the Mail Merge feature if your current publication is set to use spot colors or process colors. Any color printing option other than Composite RGB turns off the Mail Merge feature.

RESOLUTION

If you want to use the Mail Merge feature, you must set up your publication for the composite printing color option. To change the color options, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Commercial Printing Tools, and then click Color Printing.
  2. In the Color Printing dialog box, click the Composite RGB button, and then click OK.
  3. Point to Mail Merge on the Tools menu. Note that the Mail Merge Wizard is now available.

MORE INFORMATION

Use the Commercial Printing Tools options when you are taking your publication to a print shop for color separations and printing from plates on an offset printer. Use the Mail Merge feature for printing envelopes, labels, and other documents. These two features are mutually exclusive in Microsoft Publisher.
