SUMMARY

This article describes how to provision users when you install Mobile Information Server Carrier Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install Mobile Information Server in a carrier network, you must create user accounts in Active Directory and provision users with wireless devices. The Message Processor component of Mobile Information Server looks for accounts in Active Directory and uses the information associated with the account.

Provisioning enables the carrier to disable wireless access for users. In some cases, if you are a carrier administrator, you may use another method to disable wireless access; therefore, you may not want to create accounts in Active Directory. To avoid creating accounts in Active Directory, create one of the following accounts in Active Directory, depending on your requirements:
  • carrier_no_users

If this account exists in Active Directory, Message Processor caches and uses connector information associated with that account for all users. In this case, Message Processor does not access Active Directory for each user.
  • carrier_some_users

If this account exists in Active Directory, Message Processor attempts to look up the user in Active Directory, but if the user does not exist, Message Processor uses the connector information associated with the carrier_some_users account.
Message Processor first looks for the carrier_some_users account; if that account does not exist, it looks for the carrier_no_users account.
