The Video Display Seems to Be Damaged When You Change the Video Resolution (286018)

In Control Panel, when the Display tool is open and the 3D Pipes screen saver is selected, if you change the resolution with the Settings icon on the system tray, the video display seems to be damaged. The damage consists of black lines and dots that are displayed on the screen.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you use a video adaptor with 8 MB or less of random access memory (RAM).
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, you can perform any of the following methods:
- Do not leave the Display window open after you have selected the 3D Pipes screen saver.
- In the Display window, click the Settings tab, and then change the display resolution.
- Right-click the desktop, and then click Refresh.
- Open and close any program. This action can cause the screen to update itself.
MORE INFORMATION
If you change the resolution from the task bar, and the Display window is not open, this behavior does not occur.
This behavior has been reproduced using a Dell Inspiron 500 and Dell Inspiron 3800 computer, both of which use the ATI RAGE MOBILITY-M chipset.
This type of behavior has also been reported on the ATI RAGE MOBILITY-C, Virge-MX(269) ATI MOBILITY-P, S3 Savage-IX, NVidia GeForce 2 Go, and Trident chipsets.
