The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

This article was previously published under Q285799

SYMPTOMS

When you are using mount points and quotas on the same volume, you may receive random error messages on a blue screen. This problem only happens when the path to the mount point is greater than 20 characters and the option to log an event when a user exceeds their quota limit or warning level is enabled.

When special pool is enabled by using the IoEr tag and monitoring for overruns, you receive the following error message on a blue screen:
STOP 0x000000D6 (0xa4008000, 0x00000001, 0xf0d8db53, 0x00000000)
NOTE: The first and fourth parameters may vary, but the second parameter is always 1 and the third parameter address is always in Ntfs.sys.

CAUSE

The problem occurs because Ntfs.sys is writing a mount point string that is larger than the memory that is allocated.
