Clip2002: You Cannot Delete Clips Online (285640)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Clip Organizer 2002
This article was previously published under Q285640 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to delete a clip art object from an online collection, the clip art object is not deleted as expected, and you receive no message explaining why.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because you cannot delete clip art objects from collections that do not reside locally on your computer. Clip art objects in online collections are there for anyone to use, and individual users do not have the capability to delete any of them.
You can identify online clip art objects by the presence of a small icon of planet Earth in the object's lower-left corner.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, note the location of a clip art collection that contains objects that you want to delete, copy the collection to your local hard disk, and then delete the objects that you do not want from your local hard disk. After you copy the clip art collection to your local hard disk, avoid opening the collection online.
To search for a clip art object without searching the Web collection, follow these steps:
- Start Clip Organizer.
- On the standard toolbar, click Search.
- Click the Search in box.
- Click to clear the Web Collections check box.
- Type the search text that you want, for example, *.wmf, in the Search text box.
- Click Search.
The search now covers all locations except the Web collections.
