Clip Organizer search results are slow to appear using Clips Online (285638)

SYMPTOMS

When you perform a search in Microsoft Clip Organizer, the list of results may appear slowly. You may notice this behavior whether your computer is connected to the Internet or your computer is not connected to the Internet.

CAUSE

The clip art search results automatically include content from Clips Online. If your computer is connected to the Internet, it may take a moment to complete your search. The speed of the search depends on the speed of your Internet connection.

If you are not connected to the Internet, your computer still tries to access Clips Online. However, your computer cannot access Clips Online because it is not connected to the Internet. Therefore, it appears as if your search is taking longer than expected.

WORKAROUND

You can limit search results to a specific collection of clips, including Office Collections, My Collections, and Web Collections.

To limit search results to a specific collection of clips, in the Search in box, click the arrow and select the collections you want to search.

The Clip Organizer contains drawings, photographs, sounds, videos, and other media files that you can insert and use in presentations, publications, and other Microsoft Office documents.

Thousands of clip art images, sounds, photos, and animations are available on the Web. The Clips Online gallery is updated monthly so that users can constantly extend their design possibilities.

If your computer is connected to the Internet, clip art search results will automatically include content from Clips Online. Or, you can visit the site yourself by clicking the link at the bottom of the task pane.

Find and Insert a Clip

To find a clip and insert a clip into your document, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Clip Art.
  2. In the Insert Clip Art task pane, in the Search text box, type a word or phrase that describes the clip you want, or type the file name of the clip. (You can also type only a portion of the file name of the clip.)
  3. To narrow your search, do one or both of the following:
    • To limit search results to a specific collection of clips, in the Search in box, click the arrow and select the collections you want to search.
    • To limit search results to a specific type of media file, in the Results should be box, click the arrow and select the check box next to the types of clips you want to find.
  4. Click Search. Note: To clear the search criteria fields and begin a new search, below the Results box, click Modify.

    Tip: If you don't know the exact file name, you can substitute wildcard characters for one or more real characters. Use the asterisk (*) as a substitute for zero or more characters in a file name. Use the question mark (?) as a substitute for a single character in a file name.

  5. In the Results box, click the clip to insert it.
