Clip2002: Clip Files Are Not Found When You Search for Them (285621)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Clip Organizer 2002

This article was previously published under Q285621

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Clip Organizer to search for a specific picture, movie, or sound file -- for example, elphrg01.wav -- the search may be unable to locate the file.

This behavior occurs even when you are certain that the clip file is located in a clip collection that you are searching.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you search for a file in a clip collection, but you do not add the file extension or the extension wild card (*) to the search text; for example, you type elphrg01 instead of elphrgo1.wav or elphrgo1.* in the Search text box.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, always add the file extension or the wild card extension to a file name when you are searching for a specific file.

To search for a specific clip file, follow these steps:
  1. Start Clip Organizer.
  2. On the standard toolbar, click Search.

    The Search pane appears.
  3. In the Search text box, type the name of the file, including the extension or the extension wild card.
  4. In the Results should be box, click to select the check box of the media type of the clip that you are searching for, and then click to clear all other check boxes.
  5. Click Search.
