Clip2002: Edit Keyword Options Unavailable in the Keyword Dialog Box (285616)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Clip Organizer, you cannot edit the keyword for a picture. When you click Edit Keywords on the thumbnail shortcut menu, the Keyword list, and the Add, Modify and Delete buttons are unavailable (they appear dimmed).

This behavior is different than with Microsoft Clip Gallery.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you are attempting to edit a picture from the Microsoft Office Collection. Any content or keywords that are provided by Microsoft are intentionally protected from editing. They are all Read-Only.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, you can copy a ClipArt image from the Office collection to the My Collections folder and then edit the keyword.

To copy a clip a from the Office collection to a My collections folder, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Drag the Image

  1. Start Clip Organizer.
  2. Under Collection List, select the Office Collections folder that you want.
  3. After the thumbnails appear, select the thumbnail of the image that you want to copy and drag it to the My Collections folder that you want.

Method 2: Thumbnail Shortcut Menu

  1. Start Clip Organizer.
  2. Under Collection List, select the Office Collections folder that you want.

    The thumbnail images appear.
  3. Point to the thumbnail of the image that you want to copy.
  4. Click the arrow on the thumbnail.
  5. On the shortcut menu, click Copy to Collection.
  6. In the Copy to Collection dialog box, select the collection folder that you want to copy the image into, and then click OK.
To edit a keyword for a clip art image, follow these steps:
  1. Point to the thumbnail of the image that you want to edit.
  2. Click the arrow in the thumbnail that you want to edit.
  3. On the shortcut menu, click Edit Keywords.
  4. In the Keyword box, type the name of a new keyword that you want to refer to this image, and then click Add.

    -or-

    Select an existing keyword to edit, edit the keyword in the Keyword box, and then click Modify
  5. Click OK.
