The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you apply a new slide design template to a slide in Microsoft PowerPoint, the default font of that slide is not changed to the default font of the newly selected template as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you apply a design template to selected slides in the presentation.

The default font of the new template is not used because the default font is based on the default font of the first slide master in the presentation.

MORE INFORMATION

The Default Font is a per-document setting and is not controlled by the formatting of the applied design. This default font affects text that is placed into any text boxes. To change the default font for text boxes, follow these steps:
  1. On the View menu, click Normal.
  2. After ensuring that no objects or text in the presentation are selected, change the font attributes that you want on the Formatting toolbar.

NOTE: If the Formatting toolbar does not appear, click View, point to Toolbars, and then click Formatting.
These changes are now part of the default formatting used in any new text boxes created throughout the presentation. Text boxes created before you changed the default font are not affected.
