PPT2002: Collaboration Marker Commands Don't Work (285503)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
This article was previously published under Q285503 SYMPTOMS
In PowerPoint, when two or more users collaborate on a presentation, the collaboration marker (flag) may offer commands that do nothing. For example, the command to apply a reviewer's change may be available, but when you apply the change, nothing happens.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when two or more of the presentation reviewers offer conflicting changes to a presentation, and the conflicting reviews are merged.
For example, Reviewer 1 deletes a slide from a presentation, and Reviewer 2 unknowingly makes changes to the slide that was deleted. You then apply the deletion of the slide after merging with Review 1, and then attempt to unapply the deletion of the slide after merging with Review 2. The command to unapply changes appears to be available, but nothing happens when you click the command. This occurs because the slide was actually deleted with the first merge before the second merge took place.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, you must resolve any conflicting reviews before the reviews are merged into the presentation. For example, if one reviewer deletes a slide and another reviewer modifies the slide, you must decide which of the review states you want before you apply the change.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
