SYMPTOMS

When viewing a Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show presentation, you experience the following symptoms:
  • Your computer stops responding (hangs).

  • If you are using presenter tools, the Slide Show monitor shows a black screen.

  • If you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, nothing happens.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The computer is a Dell Latitude CPx H500 (GPULAB47) laptop.
  • The computer is running the Microsoft Windows 98 operating system.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe) to turn off Direct3D and DirectDraw Acceleration. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
  3. Click the Display tab.
  4. To the right of DirectDraw Acceleration, click the Disabled button.
  5. To the right of Direct3D Acceleration, click the Disabled button.
  6. Click Exit.
  7. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
