PPT2002: Changes Applied to a Placeholder by a Reviewer Are Not Displayed (285438)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2002

This article was previously published under Q285438

SYMPTOMS

When a reviewer applies changes to a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, the changes may not be displayed when the reviewer's presentation is merged with the original presentation.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when changes are applied to empty placeholders in a PowerPoint presentation slide. A change that is applied to an empty placeholder is not recognized as a change to a slide.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, either the originator or the reviewer of the presentation must include some content in the placeholder before any changes can be made to the placeholder.

NOTE: PowerPoint does not permit you to merge animations from a reviewer's presentation to the original presentation. The reviewer should comment to the originator of the presentation about any animations that he or she feels should be added to the presentation slide.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Examples of changes that a reviewer might make to a placeholder that do not apply to the placeholder after the documents are merged include all of the following:
  • Any animations applied to the placeholder (this occurs even if the placeholder contains content).
  • Any changes to the font type or style.
  • Any changes to font alignment.
  • Any changes to alignment in general.
