PUB2002: Object Appears with White Background When You Use Paste Special (285391)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2002

This article was previously published under Q285391

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Publisher 2002, when you copy a Publisher object, such as a text frame or an AutoShape, apply BorderArt to the object, and then use a Paste Special operation to paste the object as a picture elsewhere in the same or a different publication, the background of the object turns white.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, paste the object as a GIF or a JPG object, and then use the Set Transparent Color tool to make the white background transparent.

To do so, follow these steps after copying the object:
  1. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special, and then click Picture, Picture (GIF), or Picture (JPG/JFIF). Click OK.
  2. On the Picture toolbar, click the Set Transparent Color icon.
  3. Click the white background to make it transparent.
NOTE: The Set Transparent Color option is available for bitmap pictures that don't already have transparency information. It is also available for some, but not all, clip art.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
