PUB2002: Inline Shape or Picture from Text Box Becomes Placeholder with Letters "OBJ" (285372)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q285372 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to drag an inline object (a shapes or picture that flows in a text box) to a page in another publication, or to a page in another program, the object is replaced by a placeholder that looks like a box with the letters "OBJ" inside it.
CAUSE
Publisher stores Rich Text Formatting information in its text box. If you highlight just the text and the inline objects and drag them to another publication, or to a document in another program, the information that is needed to show the inline objects is not included.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
To copy text with inline objects to another open program such as Microsoft Word, follow these steps:
- Select the text and the inline object.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Switch to the document or publication that you want to copy the text and object to.
- Place the insertion point where you want, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
The objects are placed on the Office Clipboard. Rich Text Formatting is used for all copied objects.
Method 2
To copy text with inline objects to another open Publisher publication, select the entire text box, and then drag it to a different Publisher publication.
The inline objects are retained. If you only want to select a portion of the text box contents, use Method 1.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
