The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q285334

SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup for the Exchange 2000 Active Directory Connector (ADC), Setup may not complete, and you may receive the following error message:
The group name could not be found.
Facility: Win32
ID no: c00708ac
Microsoft Active Directory Connector Setup
In addition, when you view the ADC Setup log, the following message is logged:
Error code 0xC00708AC (2220): The group name could not be found
You receive a similar error message when you set up the Microsoft Windows 2000 ADC.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if an account or group is named either "Exchange Services" or "Exchange Admins." The ADC Setup program tries to create two groups called "Exchange Admins" and "Exchange Services." When Setup attempts to create these groups, and finds that the names are already taken, Setup fails because it tries to add the Exchange Service account to a group that does not exist.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, rename the account or group that has either of the names described in the "Cause" section of this article, and then run ADC Setup again.
