This article was previously published under Q285299

SYMPTOMS

When you print a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint with the color option set to Grayscale, light-colored text on dark backgrounds may not be printed as expected. The text is also not visible when you view the slide in Print Preview.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when a slide with a dark background contains a Microsoft Word table with white text.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start PowerPoint, and then open the presentation.
  2. On the View menu, point to Color/Grayscale, and then click Grayscale.
  3. Right-click the table, point to Grayscale Setting, and then click Black with Grayscale Fill.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start PowerPoint, and then open the presentation.
  2. Click the table, and then on the Edit menu, click Copy.
  3. Start Word, and then on the Edit menu, click Paste.
  4. Right-click the table. On the shortcut menu, point to Document Object (if visible), and then click Open.
  5. Select the table, and then on the Edit menu, click Copy.
  6. On the taskbar, click the name of the PowerPoint presentation.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  8. Select the Word table, and then press DELETE twice to remove the table from the presentation.
When a Word table is pasted into PowerPoint, the table is converted to a PowerPoint table. Light-colored text in PowerPoint tables appears black when printed in grayscale.
