PPT2002: Resize Points Stay Rotated But the Picture Does Not When Opened in Earlier Version (285249)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
This article was previously published under Q285249 SYMPTOMS
If you rotate an image in Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, save the presentation, and then open the presentation in an earlier version of PowerPoint, the image is no longer rotated correctly; however, the resize points stay in the rotated position.
The image may be rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees, or it may not be rotated at all.
CAUSE
Earlier versions of PowerPoint do not support free rotation of images, so they display the image rotated to the nearest 90 degrees. The resize points of the image remain at the points of the original rotation, and still allow you to freely resize the image.
WORKAROUND
To reset the resize points in a earlier version of PowerPoint, follow these steps:
- Open your presentation in the earlier version of PowerPoint.
- Select the rotated image, and then click Cut on the Edit menu.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
- Under As, click Picture, and then click OK.
The image remains at the closest 90 degree increment of rotation, but the resize handles are now in their proper location.
To preserve the rotation of a picture in other than 90 degree increments when opened in a earlier version of PowerPoint, follow these steps:
- Open your presentation in PowerPoint 2002.
- Select the rotated image, and then click Cut on the Edit menu.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
- Under As, click Picture, and then click OK.
