The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q285164

SYMPTOMS

If you press the SHIFT key to select recipients from your address book, Outlook 2000 may stop responding with the following error message when you try to select the 122nd entry in your address book:
Microsoft outlook - Application Error
---------------------------------------
Outlook.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by Microsoft Outlook 2000.

When you use the SHIFT key to select the 122nd recipient, Outlook 2000 recognizes this as though you pressed the SHIFT+F10 key combination because the SHIFT key and the 122nd entry is in the same parameter as the SHIFT+F10 key combination.
