PRJ: Bar Text on Gantt Chart Prints on Top of Drawn Objects (285102)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
  • the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

This article was previously published under Q285102

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you print a Gantt Chart view, bar text may be printed on top of drawn objects, even though the bar text appears to be covered by the object in the Gantt Chart view or in print preview.

For example, in the Gantt Chart view, you use the Drawing toolbar to create a rectangle that covers resource names to the right of a Gantt bar. When you print the view, the text is printed on top of the rectangle, instead of being covered by the rectangle.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when all of the following conditions are true:
  • Your computer's operating system is Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
  • Your printer uses the Hewlett-Packard PCL5 printer control language.
  • You draw an object that is in front of (on top of) bar text.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, change your printer settings to print all text as graphics. The steps for doing this vary, depending on your printer's properties. For example, to set a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5Si printer to print text as graphics, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Project, open the project that you want to print.
  2. On the File menu, click Print.
  3. In the Print dialog box, click Properties, and then click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Document Options, select Print Text as Graphics.
  5. Click On, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
