Push Message Is Formatted Differently on the Same Device When Using Different Carriers (285096)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server
This article was previously published under Q285096 SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Mobile Information Server to send push notifications, when you send a message to two identical devices by using two different wireless carriers by way of two Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) connectors, the message is formatted differently on each of the devices.
For example, if a message is sent to one user's device through an SMTP carrier that has the address carrier1.com, and the same message is sent to a second user through carrier2.com, the message may be truncated in different ways.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the SMTP front-end processor at the carrier truncates the messages according to the carrier's specifications.
WORKAROUND
If you use a wireless carrier that is running Mobile Information Server Carrier Edition, you can connect to the carrier using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) connector instead of the SMTP connector. When you do this, the SMTP front-end processor at the carrier is bypassed, and the message is not altered.
MORE INFORMATION
This behavior is by design. The message is altered at the wireless carrier after the message has left the Mobile Information Server system.
